Marching Along
March 1st, 2010

Between the coldness, moving to a new place, and working in solitude around the clock, I’m so ready for this winter to be over. It’s been pretty lame. Although the Olympics were fun to watch, and I have been uberproductive. I’m still a couple of weeks behind where I would like to be on the novel editing, but it is steadily coming along.
I’m starting to see tangible improvements in my fiction writing, which means that I have had to do a whole lot of cleaning up on the parts I wrote early on. Also, as I’m learning new tricks and becoming aware of added capabilities, I keep re-writing parts to utilize them. I’ll completely re-write a chapter, and when I’m finished I’ll figure out a better way to do it and then have to re-write it all over again. While all of this is adding in work and time I wasn’t counting on, it is definitely improving the final product, so it is totally worth it.
By the end of this week, I should have everything pretty much written in terms of storyline and style. Then this coming weekend I will read through the novel from front to back for the first time. I’ve read each individual chapter countless times, but it hasn’t yet felt complete enough to go straight through. I’m almost there though. After that, I’ll spend the next week and half sharpening things up as much as possible before heading to Savannah for St. Patty’s/Spring Break ’010.
Upon returning from that, I’ll spend April dealing with technical issues and grammar. I’ll be getting down to the nitty-gritty at that point. Then hopefully I can get this book ready to ship out to publishers and agents by mid-May. Finally, I’ll spend the summer in various waterside locations under assorted types of intoxication awaiting the book’s fate.
I’ve been mulling over what to do with Ohmpark, and I’m still not sure exactly what will happen. I really can’t even begin to put time into that until I get done with the novel. But I am feeling a bit of an itch to go back. I certainly can’t imagine being able to blog on a daily basis and keep up with my more serious writing at the same time, though I’m pretty sure I’m going to do something with it. I need to find a creative and new way to approach the blog to make it worth my time. I have a few ideas, but it is still premature.
So friends, my scarcity will not last too much longer. Then we’ll get back to broing out hard.
